An autonomous institution of public law is created, with its own legal personality and full capacity to acquire rights and contract obligations, whose purpose is to apply for the benefit of the people of Guatemala and based on article 63 of the Constitution of the Republic, a national, unitary and mandatory social security regime in accordance with the minimum protection system.
Said institution is called "Guatemalan Social Security Institute (IGSS)" and for the purposes of this law and its regulations, "Institute".
The domicile of the central offices of the Institute is Guatemala City.
