Political organizations are:

a)Political parties and the committees for the formation thereof.

b)Electoral civic committees; and,

c)Associations with political purposes.

The formation of political organizations whose functioning conforms to the provisions of this law is free.

It is equally free for citizens to affiliate with political organizations in accordance with their will and with the statutes of said organizations. Affiliation with more than one political party is prohibited. Voluntary separation from a political party must be express, presented before the political party or before the Register of Citizens. In both cases, whoever learns of the resignation shall notify it to the Register of Citizens or to the Political Party, as applicable, within a time limit of no more than thirty days.

If the resignation is from an affiliate who holds office within a permanent organ of the party and as a result thereof the disintegration of that organ is caused, the resigning person shall personally ratify it before the Register of Citizens, the departmental delegation or municipal subdelegation of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal, as applicable.
